Export Reports: Template Files

Modified on Wed, 8 Oct at 6:28 PM

The Template Files section defines how your export report is generated, formatted, and delivered. It allows you to configure the export structure, file type, and report context to ensure the data output aligns with your analysis or dashboard needs.

Advanced Settings

The Advanced Settings panel provides additional configuration options for users who require greater control over how the export behaves.

  • These options enable customization of export logic, field handling, and dashboard behavior, ensuring that the report output aligns with specific business or client requirements.
  • Typically, these settings are used by administrators or power users who manage shared report templates.
  • Accessing Advanced Settings enables you to fine-tune how data is queried, filtered, and grouped before export.

Export Format

Defines the file type for the exported report.

  • XLSX:
Exports the report as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx).
    • Recommended for users who need to analyze or visualize data using Excel tools such as PivotTables, charts, or formulas.
    • Supports formatting, styling, and multiple worksheets.
  • CSV:
Exports the report as a Comma-Separated Values file (.csv).
    • Suitable for system integrations, database imports, or lightweight data analysis.
    • Provides a simplified, plain-text structure ideal for automation or API processing.

Tip:
Choose XLSX when human readability and presentation matter; use CSV for machine-readable data or bulk imports.

Dashboard Type

Specifies the context in which the export report operates. This determines which dataset and filters are applied when the report runs.

  • Homepage:
Runs the export from the homepage dashboard, compiling data across all projects accessible to the user.
    • Ideal for generating organization-wide summaries or portfolio-level reports.
    • Example: Exporting all active projects grouped by client or region.
  • Project:
Runs the export within the context of a specific project.
    • Ideal for generating detailed reports focused on a single project’s data.
    • Example: Exporting task or budget details for a specific campaign.

Run As – Self or Deep (Project Dashboard Only)

When Project is selected as the Dashboard Type, two toggle options appear to define the report depth and data access level:

  • Run as Self:
Generates the report based only on the current project context.
    • Includes data directly related to the selected project (e.g., project details, assigned resources, tasks).
    • Recommended for focused, project-specific exports.
  • Run as Deep:
Expands the report to include linked or nested project data, depending on configuration.
    • Useful when a project includes related sub-projects, child forms, or dependent workflows.
    • Provides a comprehensive view of interconnected project structures.

Example:
If you are viewing a parent project with multiple campaign sub-projects, selecting Run as Deep will include all sub-project data in a single export.

Summary

The Template Files section allows you to:

  • Configure the export’s format and dashboard context.
  • Access Advanced Settings for detailed control.
  • Choose between XLSX or CSV for output.
  • Define whether reports pull data from the Homepage, a specific Project, or nested sub-projects (via Run as Deep).
